Hi all... our 4-year-old cat recently had an infection on his back foot. Before we took him to the vet, the foot was very swollen, wet, and red, and it emitted pus and a bit of blood. The vet cleaned him up and gave us an antibiotic. It did the trick after a few days.
It's been a couple of weeks, and we noticed that he still licks and bites the paw now and then (though not nearly as much as when it was infected). I looked at it the other day, and the foot pad is cracked, dry, and red, like a person's skin can get during the winter. It's not swollen, and he doesn't limp, doesn't seem to be in pain (I squeezed lightly it once, and he didn't react at all), and still runs and jumps all over the apartment. No other symptoms; just looks kind of nasty and he licks it a bit.
Could it be our hardwood floors drying his feet out? He loves to play and is extremely energetic -- too much jumping and running? Or just leftover itchiness from the infection?
