Oh Bea. I haven't posted much about Bea but I've been following this story from the start. Poor baby has been though so much---it's just not fair.

i'm so sorry to hear this latest shocking news about precious bea.

if i can bring you any comfort it would be to tell you about my friends persian, obe. he was diagnosed as being in chronic renal failure and he lived another happy 18 months.

Poor Bea. I have to say, I don't blame her adopter for hedging now though. I couldn't adopt a cat knowing I'd fall completly in love with her only to watch her die. I will never know how you do what you do Nat but bless you. Even though she may not get a home at least she got loved!

I can't say I wouldn't. Not knowing that with renal failure they could live for years. I couldn't handle not adopting the cat, knowing full well she will be euthanized.

I don't ask for these cats, I just give them the best chance I can. With Bea, that chance is very slim. That's frusterating.

i can understand her reluctance... but isn't Bea an older cat, anyway? or am i misremembering?
i wouldn't want to adopt one that i knew was dying soon... but if it would be a few years, i would.

Please re-read Traci's emails. The gist of the problem is your vets aren't qualified to work on your cats. Get a consult with a specialist or UofM (may only be the price of a long-distance phone call). I have known Traci a long time and she wouldn't have taken so much time to help you nor would i, if we didn't know what we were talking about and we didn't think Damita was worth everything. It's so simple really, get a new vet, a specialist, or a consult with U of M, and get poor Damita diagnosed once, start treatment immediately.

As for Bea, keep her, get her treated. It doesn't cost and arm and leg to treat CRF, once it's diagnosed, it's managed fairly easily with fluids, prescription diet, followups with the vet (to monitor weight, hydration, BUN and creatinine levels), sometimes prescribed potassium supplements.

I know MA. I had Damita to another vet....the only way I can know for sure what's wrong with her is to get a several thousand dollar MRI. I simply cannot afford that. I've been avoiding a call to the U of M, but probably will next week.

I cannot keep Bea. That's pretty much the end of the story. I knew when I brought her home she could never stay here. If I had different (not so aggressive) cats, I could make it work....but even with Feliway & Rescue Remedy they're fighting like mad.... (Bea is seperated from the others, it's the other's who are fighting). She's only 5 years old....but age doesn't matter in a situation like this. Her behavioral issues are escalating here.

I just gave them a quick call, the U of M. I won't have time before work to talk to them, but they did say they can offer advice on CRF once I have Bea's bloodwork done. I will call on Monday to talk to them about Damita, see if she needs tests if they can somehow work out a payment plan or anything. Because I haven't even got the $$ to cover the gas to drive there right now.

Nat, if your cats are fighting mad chances are good you have to many animals for your space. Would suggest you stop rescuing until the health issues are handled and you find homes for some of your rescues. Good luck-

I know..... When Bea was gone to the vet those 2 days they were all calm. She's the issue. But yes, until at least 4-5 find new homes no more...and even once they're rehomed no more I think.

I am so sorry to hear this, I am in a similar situation with one of my fosters, although I don't have the aggression issues, she just doesn't like the other cats and stays in one room. Good luck, but you are not a bad person if you do decide to let Bea go, she has had every chance possible with you, and known lots of love and attention.
