A sweet story: Why did a dog in Newmarket end up nursing a litter of kittens?

But perhaps more common than we recognize. Many years ago I had a dachshund that really wanted to be a mother. We adopted a kitten from the local SPCA They said it was 8 weeks old. Must have driven through a time warp was I drove directly to our veterinarian two towns over. He said kitten was perhaps 6 weeks old but he wouldn't be surprised to learn it was only 5 weeks old. Point of this story - dachshund would lay on her side with a look of bliss on her face as the kitten would suckle on a teat and knead. No milk, but both were very happy.

Saw this on the news this morning. :) Friends thought they would breed their Dachshound but she turned on her puppies and they had to be hand raised. The little doggie was spayed and friends gave up. Next year friends had a whole bunch of their hens eggs hatch and that silly little Dachsie took over the chicks as if they were puppies. So cute to see them all in a line snuggled up to the dog's belly to keep warm and looking as if they were nursing.
