Maybe so, but I do have to say that is the small minority. It's just unfair to label a large subculture based on a minority behavior.Originally Posted by Snake_Lady
I think it depends on where you are in the worldI'm speaking from my own experiences of the teens local to me and what they believe EMO means. My sis is 15, and she and I are very close. Around here Emo is not just a music and fashion stance, they are heavily involved with self mutilation as well.

but equally, any time you see young people in trouble on the local news, they always ahow you a picture of them and sure enough they are chavs!

That is here. I have no idea how other places are....I was speaking of the emo kids in my town, local to me.... and it's not a minority. My sister, is the minority in the sense that she does NOT self mutilate for the fun of it as she knows the issues I have.We have alot of them here, but ours tend to self mutilate for the fun of it. They believe that cutting oneself is fun, and makes them cool and popular.

I would be interested in knowing more about an EMO teen culture that didn't involve self-harming. I live in London, and I have the same experience of emo teens as snake_lady.
I did not intend to cause argument, I was just trying to say that when generalizing about large group of people (i.e. providing a definition of sorts for the term "emo") a more broad ranged definition would probably be better suited. That's all I was getting at.Originally Posted by Snake_Lady

I don't think I have seen anyone around here that fits all those points so I will have to say no we don't have them here. We do have the wanna-be ganstas/thugs who tend to wear baggy clothes from Tommy Hilfiger, Sean John, or similar designers and they also wear leather jackets, gold chains and the girls wear tight tops, low-rise jeans and hoops earrings (think J-lo). They sometimes wear baggy hoodies too. As a general rule though they don't wear Burberry! In fact the only people I've seen wearing Burberry around here are "fashionable" type yuppies.Originally Posted by jezmondo69
for example the people im talking about are usually between 12 and 30, wear all the high street designer stuff all the time, often with a bit of sports wesr thrown in for good measure. another popular one with them is burbery stuff, from hats to bags etc. loads of gold chains (bigger the better) girls wear massive hoop earrings, guys wear soverigns etc.
its not these things singularly that make you a chav its when its all together.
And where did you hear that?.Originally Posted by wearymicrobe
This is what you guys get for a nanny state that takes away police officers weapons and try to talk everything out instead of taking any sort of auction.
If i had the chance i'd ban all those stupid baseball caps and hoodies that they wear, not to mention burberry onesOriginally Posted by jezmondo69
its good to see people seem to agree with me on this whole chav thing!
A chav would snap it up quickly thoughOriginally Posted by jezmondo69
