Hi everyone,
I posted a few weeks ago with a bunch of questions regarding my new kitten. I didn't really receive any advice other than "she's too young - adopt an adult cat". Although I realize intentions were good, it was incredibly unhelpful. Had we not adopted her, she would have been surrendered to the SPCA and so we wanted to bypass that process for her and bring her home before the owner gave her away (which would have happened 3 days after we brought her home, as the owner was moving). We are feeling totally lost on a few things with our new kitten, and I am trying here again, hoping that I will not be chastised for adopting a young kitten when we felt it was her best option.
ANYWAYS, Kali is 8 weeks and 1 day today, and has been with us for a week. She's adjusted beautifully, and is sleeping, playing, using her litterbox, and eating like a champ. We're almost afraid she's eating too well, however... following advice I found on here, we leave dry kitten food out for her all the time, and are feeding her small portions of wet food 4x a day. However, every time one of us walks in to the kitchen, she follows and meows her little heart out for more wet food. It's my understanding that you can't really overfeed a kitten (and she is very tiny and VERY active), but I'm worried that she's already getting to the habit of begging for food. If we fed her every time she meowed for it, she'd probably end up eating most of a large can of wet food a day, spread over 6 or 7 meals, plus nibbling on dry food.
Should we stick to meals 4x a day and just bump up the portions? (I don't understand how she could fit that much food in her tiny body at once, and she has puked after huge meals a few times) Should we feed her whenever she meows for it? What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for the help!
