One of my somewhat-close friends spent most of the summer (and early fall) talking about adopting cats. Now, she's spacey and aloof and sort of inconsistent with things like that, so I didn't ever think she would do it. But, now she has. Had I known she was actually seriously going to pursue this, I would have tried to talk her out of it, but, my mistake.
This girl is not the kind of person who should have animals. She has the best intentions in the world and she is incredibly sweet to these cats, but the fact remains that she is flighty...a little social butterfly in fact. She happens to live with my boyfriend and so he's been taking care of these cats, because several days will go by in which she doesn't come home because she's busy with her social life and all of her campus activities. If not for Ian, these cats would be alone ALL the time. Their third roommate has been sinking into a deep depression and has been increasingly turning to cigarettes and alcohol, which he leaves around the house, giving both cats unfettered access to these things (since Cyndi is never home to keep an eye on them.) That third roommate is a story for another forum entirely, but...yeah. I've been clipping their nails and grooming the DMH as well, who developed mats that Cyndi wasn't even aware of.
Well, now, of course, one of her cats is seriously gooping from the eyes. He needs to see a vet. I've called her several times and she makes all sort of excuses about how she'll do it when she has time. I'd be happy to take him to my vet this once, but I seriously can't afford to be their permanent caretaker. I already buy food and litter for both of them! Ian (my boyfriend) would be happy to have the cats surrendered to him, but the problem is, as clueless ad Cyndi is, she's my friend. She's just a friend that shouldn't have animals. What should I do?
