So after eliminating every other possible cause, I am coming back to the idea of my cat's food. Until June or so of this year my cat at mostly dry food. He did eat about 1/2 a 3oz can of wet food mostly to get him to drink water. At the time, however, I minimized wet food because I believed my cat had renal issues and non KD wet food should be kept to a minimum. In late april he tested ok for renal issues and was giving a clean bill by the vet to go full time on the wet food.
Then I started feeding him mostly wet food. 3 oz of wet food in the morning and three at night. I added a little more wet food. After 4 months of this, my cat had a diarrhea explosion. Which persists to this day. My suspicion at the moment is that there is something in the wet food that doesn't agree with him. But, when he was getting small amounts of it, it didn't cause a problem. Since he has had the diarrhea problem I have been able to keep it two a minimum by feeding him dry food. My suspicion is that the dry food just doesn't have the same amount of ingredients and, something, in the ingredients is causing the problem. Currently he has like 1 day of diarrhea for every 6 that is normal.
But this week I stared giving him more wet food and again, he had a bit of diarrhea.
So my question... if your cat is having diarrhea issues do you fee it wet food. If your cat doesn't have this as an issue... do you feed it dry?
Additionally, since giving him dry food, I have to say his "asthma" or coughing is not as bad. I cut back on his steroid dose and no coughing at all.
I heard a theory once that asthma or cat COPD is caused by inflammation in the digestive track. That it spreads to the respiratory system. And, if you get the digestive track under control the asthma will resolve.
