My brother lives in Austin, and if I were going to visit him I would offer to teach you. Unfortunately, that doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon since he's coming out here for Thanksgiving.
A lot of craft stores that sell crochet supplies also have "how to" books. If you have a choice, make sure you get one that has very clear pictures/diagrams as well as written instructions.
