I have a question about one of my foster kittens. She's 3.5 months old but is small for her age (the vet says that there is nothing wrong with her though) so in an attempt to make sure she got sufficient nutrition I kept giving her a nightly bottle much longer than she should have been getting it (she really liked it).
About a month ago I was giving her a bottle and like always she was chewing on the nipple. This time however when I took the nipple out of her mouth I discovered that the whole tip had been chewed off and it was gone. I freaked out, trying to check her throat but she had clearly swollowed it. I called the emergency vet asking if there was anything I could do or if I should bring her in. I was told though that there was nothing I or they could do and that I should just keep an eye on her and if she started to vomit or stopped eating I should bring her in. Otherwise it should just pass on its own.
I watched her and she had no symptoms. She ate and pooped just fine. I kept looking for the tip of the nipple to come out but I never saw it. I do have quite a few cats and several litter boxes though so it's impossible to check all the poop. Delilah kept acting normal and I assumed that the nipple must have come out but that I didn't see it.
A couple of nights ago though I found a large pool of vomit on the floor and in the middle of it was something strange looking. I picked it up and looked at it and to my great surprise it was the tip of the nipple that Delilah had swollowed almost a month ago. I even compared it to the piece of the nipple that she had chewed it off and it fit like a puzzle.
I'm really perplexed at seeing it come up after so long and I'm surprised that I've never seen anything wrong with Delilah. I've kept a close eye on her since the nipple came up and she's completely fine. Her poop is normal and she has not vomited again. She eats and drinks fine. I haven't been able to talk to my vet yet due to Thanksgiving and although she seems fine I'm a bit worried that having had this fairly large object in her stomach all this time has caused some sort of injury. What do you guys think? Should I worry or just move on since she seems fine? Could she have some internal injury that she has no symptoms of?
Thanks for any input.
