I have strept throat and Bryne lays on me everynight when i sleep. I'm not sure if cats can contact that from humans or not, but i just wanted to make sure of it, before i got close to her today. =)

Your cat won't get any symptoms, but they CAN get a transient streptococcus pyogenes infection if they come into contact with a human with strep throat. They can then carry it and pass it back to you. It is not at all dangerous to them, but if you or other human members of your family get recurring strep throat then the cat (same goes for pet dogs) should have antibiotics at the same time as you are being treated to prefent further re-infection.
Generally speaking, viruses cannot easily be passed between species. Bacteria though are able to survive in a wider range of body temperatures and metabolisms and can be more readily transmitted to another species, although their effect on different species can vary.
