I'm looking for a little objective advice about a job change I'm considering.
Think I've mentioned that I currently work as writer for a Catholic newspaper. I've been here almost six years. It's a good job, decent pay, great benefits, a lot of flexibility and very rewarding. Since I have a degree in journalism, it's been a good fit. However, lately I've been feeling a little restless and have been thinking it's time for something new.
There's currently a position open for a communications director with a local religious community - comprised of about 500 nuns. Basically the job would
be doing public relations for the sisters, writing press releases, writing and editing their publications, etc... They're looking for someone with a communications background and managerial experience, which I have. I've written many articles about this community and am very familier with their mission and ministries. The pay is more than I'm making now and the benefits are about the same. The downside is that it would mean a less flexible schedule and more travel time to and from work, since it's on the other side of town. I've had several people tell me that I should apply and know that I would have a pretty good shot at getting the job.
Any thoughts? This would be a great career move, but the biggest thing holding me back is all the freedom and flexibility I have now. It would be hard to give up! Thanks.
