Hi all. I was reading and taking notes from the veterinary manual I have, and I came across congenital deafness. I was wondering if Annie's vestibular disease could be the cause of her deafness.
"Congenital deafness can be inherited of result from damage (TOXIC OR VIRAL) to the developing fetus." ~Merck Veterinary Manual; Ninth Edition
Annie was diagnosed with a vestibular disease, and has been determined that CJ must've had exposure to feline distemper while pregnant. Feline distemper has been known to cause damage to the cerebellum, but what if it can cause damage to the hearing part of the brain? My vet explained to me that the virus can damage the cerebellum so badly, that it "eats" through it and into the next part of the brain... well, what if in Annie's case, that's why she's deaf? So, my question is, could her vestibular disease be intertwined with her deafness? I'm not worried or anything... just curious and wanting to learn.
Thanks!
Cassie
