Our cat saw the vet yesterday. Was given a shot of conveina for a ruptured anal gland. She has a cone on for 7 days. She ate wet food this morning. Will not drink water from her dish and has not used her litter box since Sunday night. Can I take the cone off?

What was the reason for the cone - they cleaned out the gland and are worried about contamination, or were there sutures for any kind of incision they did? You probably can remove the cone under supervision.

Is this an Elizabethan cone (hard plastic than most of the times extends past their nose)? There are other kinds of cones you could try. This is just one example of many, many different kinds - SUNGROW Post-Surgery Soft Cone Dog & Cat Recovery Collar, Pink, Medium - Chewy.com

Be very careful if there are sutures. The cone is to prevent the cat from traumatizing an area that will hurt and itch. See if they can offer you any sort of happy kitty drugs like Gabapentin. Is your cat on pain medication. If not ask for some. This is a highly sensitive area and painful. You would have to pick up something from your vet as anything for people will be toxic and could kill cats. I am sure you know that but I have to say it anyway.

In case they didn't tell you, you don't want to use clumping litter as it can get stuck to that area. switch to either shredded paper or non clumping litter, or pellets for the cat box.

Im sorry but the sock cone won't work. They can still reach the area. Just put the cone back on and call your vet and discuss options with them.

You were right it only worked for about 45 minutes. She did drink and use the litter box on that timeframe so we are thrilled. While it was on she even played.

How old is your cat and how big is he/she? You could try a paper plate with the middle cut out and placed over the head and around the neck.
