Hi everyone
My first post here and it's a doozy. I'm hoping someone here can provide clarity.
My (almost) 5 year old Scottish Fold went for her vaccines on Friday. She had all 3 (rabies, leukemia and another.... AHV??). She's never had all 3 at once before, and vomited and had diarrhea approx. 2 hours after the vaccines. The next day we called the vet who said we should watch her. She vomited several times again, and had diarrhea, so we took her in. The vet gave her an injection for the diarrhea, an injection for the vomiting and an injection of fluids. We took her home and she seemed to perk up for about 30 minutes and had some food. She tried to sleep but didn't seem to get comfortable, after a couple hours she vomited and tried to walk but her hind legs weren't cooperating. She started to pant and kick her legs erratically, as if having a seizure. We rushed her to an emergency vet who thought she had thrombosis. They did an x ray and confirmed there was no broken bones. Her CBC had a mild increase in neutrophils, her thyroid was normal, her electrolytes were unremarkable and she had stress hyperglycemia listed under chemistry in her report. A cardiologist was called in and her echo showed normal heart function. An internal medicine specialist was called in and found no obvious clots.
She has a follow up with the internal medicine specialist tomorrow for more tests.
I'm curious if anyone else has experienced something medically similar or has any advice! I should add that her primary care vet is well respected and I don't suspect she poisoned her or anything like that.
Currently she's on blood thinners and a pain killer every 8 hours. She is eating a little but not as much. She's still drinking. She is favoring her right hind leg but is still cruising around. She's been hiding under the bed mostly, which isn't normal for her but I'm trying not to panic and remind myself that she's been poked and put into her carrier numerous times in the past 72 hours. Is there anything we can do to make her feel more comfortable with us again?
Thank you all in advance. I'm so worried about her and also worried that I'm making the wrong choice in trying to find an answer. Maybe I'm just prolonging her pain? I just didn't feel comfortable euthanizing her without an answer...
