My vet prescribed cisapride to improve gut motility. I found out cisapride is taken off market due to heart related death occurred in children. Why would vet prescribed this?
It’s widely and pretty commonly used in cats specifically for disorders of gut motility as it increases peristalsis in a cats’ intestines. There’s been no indication of it causing related issues in cats. If you have concerns, talk to your vet. Side effects in cats are pretty rare, and generally related to dosage being too high.
Cisapride is safe in cats. Cats and humans react to meds differently. Think about dogs, chocolate and grapes will destroy their kidneys and kill them. Both of these are perfectly safe for humans.
Human children and cats are not the same.
Tylenol for example, something children take all the time across the world for fevers, can kill cats even in small doses.
