So does anyone have experience with Cerenia being used for bladder issues? Macy is 12lbs and the vet prescribed 16 mg for 4 days to reduce the inflammation. I know this is prescribed for dogs so not sure about this at all.
I have not heard of Cerenia(Malropitant) being used for anything other than an anti-emetic... I thought perhaps you meant to type Convenia(the antibiotic shot?)
16mg seems awfully high dose- the usual dose is 4mg once daily.
Well Macy got the Convenia shot but then the vet gave me the cerenia and said it was for swelling and inflammation in his bladder. I thought the dosage was awful high too and I can' find anything online about it.
Cerenia has been proven to help with organ pain, in particular, pain associated with spaying. Cats given Cerenia prior to surgery required 30% less anesthesia than cats not given Cerenia.
Wow that is pretty interesting! I am hoping that this will turn into a great tool to help control pain in cats with FLUTD. The dosage does seem pretty high though for a cat.
Ok, so about 3 mg/kg. (And, also, I just saw where you had stated the dose in your first post, not sure how I missed that.)
I'll be curious to hear if you notice any benefit from the use.
Our rescue uses Cerenia with our spays. We recently switched vets and I discussed wanting to use Cerenia with them, this clinic had not ever done this, but had no problems with my request. The dr that performed our first 2 spays noticed a difference in how our girls recovered and how comfortable they appeared compared to others. They are now going to offer this to other clients (though she wasn't sure how many would be interested due to the extra cost.)
Well he is done with his dosage and in reality all I can say is that it seemed to just knock him out, so not sure if the benefit was for him to relax or what
