I asked about them at yesterday's clinic and the word I got was that the shelter resembles a hoarder's house--complete with substandard veterinary care. Take a pass on this one. If you're in the Philadelphia area, great things are happening with the PSPCA--look into them or contact me....
CWNN has tried repeatedly to establish its legitimacy and expand its operations by linking to our groups (originally "Philly Ferals"); we're not having it. Our mission is TNR coupled with whatever veterinary treatment we can give ferals while they're briefly in our custody (just try treating a feral cat's wounds or infections when it's conscious--Good Luck!). We also foster and adopt socialized stray/feral kittens/cats and evaluate which ones can be so treated and which ones should be released.
Granted, our volunteers are swamped. I've twelve cats in a two-bedroom rowhome and I'm expecting one to deliver a litter of kittens. Mine is a "mild" case. I've got "gen pop", "admin seg" and "the infirmary"--at this point I'm the kitty warden from Oz. The cats are healthy, well cared for and receive veterinary treatment as is needed--and my checkbook definitely reflects the latter.
Our volunteers know their limits and have access to a network of trappers, fosterers, vets and "backyard medics" like myself. We work closely not only with PACCA, the PSPCA and local veterinarians but also with the U. of PA Veterinary School--their students are essential to our spay/neuter clinics.
We invite public inquiry--this is also free publicity. We're doing great things in Philadelphia on a shoestring, but that shoestring is growing into a hawser. If you're in the Philadelphia area, bypass CWNN and contact either the PSPCA or PACCA about us. Or you could just contact me....
ipw533 "CWNN has tried repeatedly to establish its legitimacy and expand its operations by linking to our groups (originally "Philly Ferals"); we're not having it." I checked out the site(Philadelphia Community Cats Council) and cats with no name IS listed as feral friends and when clicked takes you to the CWNN website. It does say that the site is "Under Construction – we are working to further categorize some of the links below" I hope this construction will include the removal of CWNN's link!
