I have 3 cats, a 19 year old, a 5 year old and 4 year old.
the 5 year old is the 4 year olds mother.
These guys have been with me for the past 5 years.
The mother cat, I will call mom, started attacking her daughter about 2 1/2 years ago. At that time, it was more play. They would stalk each other now and then but the mom would always instigate it. They would "fist fight", roll around and then go their separate ways. they still ate together, sat together on my lap, etc.
Then about a week ago, mom has gotten extremely mean. Yesterday, she wouldn't allow daughter to use the cat box. I have 3 cat boxes for the 3 cats and mom wouldn't allow daughter to use ANY of them. Poor daughter was frantic and very upset. I had to remove mom to allow daughter to relieve herself. Now she won't let her eat, or sleep on any of the usual surfaces. AND unless I intervene, daughter is NOT allowed to go near the cat boxes..
WHAT THE HECK is going on???
I have had cats, and all manner of other pets all my life, I am not a novice owner.
There have been NO changes, no new food, no new cat litter, no upset to their routine.NOTHING has changed.
BUT my daughter wonders if it isn't boredom? They love going outside but of course I live in upper midwest and its been a cold winter here. They still go for a few minutes but want in right away. I also cannot get them to play much, no fake feathers or mice for these girls. they are mighty hunters and simply turn up their noses at anything like that.
Any suggestions.
