My cat Bowie has feline herpes. I give him L-Lysine 500 mg twice a day with his wet food. He only eats canned food. The problem is his breath stinks. His gums are pink (normal pink) and there's nothing odd looking with his teeth. If I touch a tooth, he doesn't squirm away. I'm thinking maybe his breath stinks because he sometimes breathes through his mouth. Besides having herpes, his nose is "deviated" and it gets stuffy really quickly. The L-Lysine has helped tremedously, but he still sometimes breathes from his mouth. Could his stinky breath be because of his mouth breathing? I've read somewhere that breathing through your mouth makes your breath stinky because of the amount of bacteria or something?
I just started using pet dental wipes and will see if that helps.
