This is a bit long, but I wanted to give some history.
Bubba is 12 and was never a big eater. We had to put our other cat down at the end of August and he was the piggy of the two. Bubba would patiently wait until Mikey was done and then pick at the leftovers. When mikey died, we decided to change bubba over to mostly wet. He seemed to be doing ok. He was eating most of two 3oz cans (1 in the morning, 1 at night) and some dry. But since September, he's not eating the dry anymore and he's eating maybe 3oz total..like half a can twice a day. We've tried different brands, high end and stinky junky food.
In addition to not eating as much, he's been scooting a lot after bowel movements. I don't see him over-cleaning the area, just see him scooting after pooping (which are small). Other than that, he's affectionate, purring, kneading his blanket, and soft and clean.
He had a major check up in September...full senior blood, urinalysis, and fecal and everything was normal. He had a little bit of a UTI and was on antibiotics for it. Then a month ago we took him in once he lost some weight. The vet repeated the blood work, urinalysis, fecal (checked for occult blood and girardia(sp) and did an x-ray and nothing was out of the normal range. She suggested adding some rice to the wet food and give it a couple of weeks to see how he did. He doesn't eat the food if it has the rice in it anymore, and will still eat like 1/2 a can of it plain. But he's still really thin. So now she suggested doing an ultrasound, which we have scheduled for Friday.
Is there anything else I should ask? What can I use to enhance his appetite? He's not into cat nip or snacks at all....never was.
I'm so worried that it's cancer, like Mikey. That's just where my mind goes. Thank you.
