Here it is, 3:20 am, and I am typing and bawling...
I recieved an email tonight from someone a couple of towns over from me, that I am so upset about, I just can't shake it.
She writes about a young male cat in her apt complex who, a couple years ago had a collar with a name tag (Thomas)
Then about a year ago she saw his collar was taken off and he had a limp tail, just hanging behind him like a rope.
He is now incontinent, both.
He wanders around everyday just looking for anyone to pet him and love him, he is extremely affectionate but most chase him away. (probably poopy/smelly)
So he is fed, but is a lost soul, sleeping in bushes trying to stay warm.
What I know is, it is highly unlikely he will ever recover, he surely had nerve damage with his tail injury, and is never going to regain control over his bladder/bowels.
Can I help him find a home....
I realize, despite how desperately I try to save every cat I come across, that there really is no place for him. His tail would need to be amputated to prevent soiling and traumatizing it, but will need a diaper always. This means he is better off being put to sleep.
Who would adopt a cat like that? Nobody, sadly, tragically, but it's the truth.
It's breaking my heart, the part that she said he wanders around every day looking for someone to pet him....ugh. That just kills me.
