Last month my kitty got in to a fight with another cat, the altercation led to a bruise which eventually became a cyst. Unfortunately before the day of our vet visit, the cyst burst and drained by itself. Other than being a little wet, the only result was a small open wound. The vet looked at it gave him a shot, we asked for some anti-biotics and took him home. However when the injury was almost healed it filled with a small amount of fluid, maybe less than quarter size and drained again. This resulted in the injury reopening, now here's where the problem is. Every time it starts to heal my cat bites or licks the scab off. This has resulted in him having this perpetual injury for 3 weeks, it tries to heal over and over but I cannot get him to leave it alone. I've tried everything I can think of from vaseline to band aids to keep him from licking it. We did tell the vet that it was a problem that he would not stop aggravating the injury but he didn't offer us any advice at all.
The injury it literally a small cut on his right shoulder nothing more. Because I cannot keep it closed up I clean it several times a day. Usually though after I clean it seems to prompt my cat to bother it. What else can I do to resolve this problem?
Also, my cat it two years old, aside from vaccinations he's been to this vet twice ( once each year). I'm sure this vet knows his stuff but he just doesn't seem to be very helpful. He'll will tell us any issues with my cat but doesn't tell us how to resolve them. For instance last year my cat somehow got gingivitis the vet confirmed this gave him anti- biotics but no further information about how to resolve the problem.
My kitty has had a several issues recently and I want to completely resolve them, but it costs alot of money to keep taking him to this vet only get vague information and short lived fixes. Should I take him to a different vet?
