Please never ignore a cat sneezing blood thinking it will be fine and take your fur kid to a vet straight away. My cat Manx, 12 year old, neutered, male British Longhair rescue cat began sneezing blood a few months ago in December 2016 and was sneezing excessively after having what i was told by the vet was a chronic asthma attack. He was diagnosed with Asthma a few months after i got him from a rescue shelter. He was treated for the asthma attack with a steroid injection and also given an anti biotic injection to be on the safe side although his bloods at that time were fine :he picked up then 2 days later the sneezing began. My vet did an x ray of his nasal passage and chest to check for any tumors ,etc but they were clear and it was suspected that a blade of grass had lodged inside his upper respiratory tract area. I did find a blade of grass on my floor and believed that was the cause as he stopped sneezing and no more blood. The sneezing stopped but then Manx began sneezing blood again a few weeks ago some months after it stopped. I changed vets to one i was recommended as my last vet only employed locums each of which gave me a different "opinion " as to what was wrong and the vet carried out an endoscopy: the vet discovered loads of blood and clots even before he used the endoscope and samples were sent to the lab for testing. My cat,s white cell count was also very high. It took just over 2 weeks for the results to come back and the vet phoned me today to tell me Manx has Aspergillosis a fungus growing in his nasal cavity. I am devastated. Manx has now been referred to a specialist and is to have an MRI scan to see if the Aspergillosis is present anywhere else in his body as it can spread which is known as Invasive Aspergillosis. My other cat, Manx,s brother Kipp, also a rescue, has not had any sneezing at all but to be on the safe side, i am going to have him checked too for Aspergillosis. The earlier it is found the quicker treatment can start .I,m hoping that the Aspergillosis has not spread to any of Manx,s other organs and it can be treated in his nasal region with anti fungal medication. Please read up on Aspergillosis especially if your cat already has any chest/respiratory problems or a weak immune system and if you notice any of the symptoms associated with this terrible illness then please seek vet advice straight away.
