I am the proud co-owner of a 8-9 month old shelter rescue named Albus who, over the last five months, has become the absolute light of my life. I have crazy cat lady written all over me.
My boyfriend and I are both leaving for the holiday and I'm really panicking about the cat. We called around and found a pet sitting company (good reviews, licensed, bonded, and insured, etc) who has agreed to watch to watch our kitten. However, I am petrified by the idea of something bad happening. The woman working in my area has agreed to come once a day on Christmas and the two following days (we are leaving the 24th and returning the 28th). She is stopping by for a consultation to meet us and the kitten on Saturday but i feel really weird and panicky about letting a stranger in my house with my baby.
I do not have friends in the area and we don't know our neighbors so that's not an option. I have a coworker who can visit once but she is unable to see our kitten any day other than the 26th. He spends A lot of time alone since my boyfriend and I both work, and we have left him alone for two nights before with no issues at all, but I can't help but worry when I know he's on his own. We briefly considered boarding, but I cannot in good conscience put a cat I got from a shelter in a cage again, even if it's the nicest cage in the world.
Does anyone have any advice or comforting words? Is there a way I can make sure this pet sitter won't neglect my little man? Am I better off leaving him on his own with a visit from my coworker, who I fully trust? I wish he could come with us, but a 1200 mile trek is too much for a little cat, especially for just four days.
