After losing my Sally and Minnie since last July and two weeks ago, I am have come to terms with my losses and now I really want to adopt  two new ones. My question is, is it it ok to adopt an adult cat and a kitten? Or should it be two adults or two kittens. I just don't want an adult cat that is set in it's ways to resent the presence of a kitten. Is there a risk in that? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You should ask at the shelter what they have in the way of bonded (fairly) young adult and kitten pairs. Our shelter is cageless and it isn't uncommon for an adult to "adopt" a kitten. It usually seems to be a 2 - 3-year-old (male or female) taking on a kitten up to about a year old, but sometimes they're closer in age.

An older adult would probably find a young kitten annoying because of all the excess energy. An age difference of a year or two shouldn't be a problem.
