Hello. I rescue & rehome as well as TNR feral cats. I have five cats of my own (three girls, two boys). All of my cats are spayed/neutered. The cats I'm having trouble with are as follows:
A male named Hermes, three years old, was neutered at four months of age.
Izabella, a female, four years old was spayed at about six months.
My problem started out with Izabella. In the fall of 2014 she got a UTI and started urinating on any plastic or paper that was left on the ground. She usually tried to go on plasticy paper like trash bags or grocery bags, but will also urinate in my plastic dustpan if it's not put up. The vet said she was probably associating the litter box with pain, and that is why she started urinating other places. She was treated for the UTI and her symptoms went away, but she STILL urinates all over plastic and paper or on any surface that feels plasticy. Sometimes she will just go on my kitchen tile.
Switch to Hermes. Since he was fixed at about 4 months he NEVER sprayed in his life...Until I fostered a female stray in March. The female I fostered was unfixed at first, and sprayed a few places around my house during the first couple days I had her. Hermes went nuts and started marking EVERYTHING. The female stray was spayed later that week and she stopped spraying, and was later rehomed in May. Hermes didn't stop marking though.
I bought a UV light and went around the house and cleaned up any urine I could find with natures miracle, but now, several months later, both Herme's and Izabella pee ALL over still. It's SO frustrating because they never used to. It's a maddening cycle where Izabella will pee (Bathroom not marking, it's a big puddle) on something plastic and then Hermes will smell it and mark nearby OR Hermes will mark (spray, just little splashes while standing up) on my couch and then Izabella will smell it and decide now she can urinate on the couch.
Please, please, how can I get them to stop? It is SO frustrating and I feel like I'm ready to tear my hair out! I have tried Feliaway with no success.
