If he is not hunting or getting much nourishment he could get quite skinny quickly. Have you tried to put his litter box and articles of clothing that smell like you outside. The purpose is to attract him home with familiar scents. Stinky fish like tuna may entice home or cat nip. You might try putting the above out at dusk and sitting and waiting to see if he will appear.
