Hi everyone, been reading over this site for a few weeks, but just now submitting my first post.
Over the last couple of years my cat has hurt his front and left legs several times after which he'd hold it up and/or limp on it. I've been to the vet tons of times and x-rays have been taken at numerous occasions. He never had any bone fractures and in all cases a soft-tissue injury was suspected. The vet did notice the slight onset of arhritis, but overall his joints are very clean.
After doing great for at least 9 months, my cat had suddenly developed a severe limp again between the time I went to bed and the time I woke up in the morning. I figured he'd probably hurt himself jumping and kept a close eye on it. when it didn't get any better after 2 days, I took him to the vet who took x-rays again, checked his range of motion etc. etc. The vet gave me some pain medication to make him more comfortable and that's about it.
some days he'd walk on it again, and some days he started limping again.
During the last 2 months I've been back and forth to the vet since his situation is just not improving. They took more x-rays and tests, but can't quite figure out what it is. Other than perhaps a minor soft tissue injury and the arthritis.
What worries me is that he now frequently holds up his leg and hops around on 3 legs for at least 5 minutes before trying to put some wait on it.
His toes were thoroughly checked and I've tried various kinds of medications. Anti-inflammatories, pain medication even some steroids. Currently he's on a metacam regiment but it doesn't seem to make much difference either.
Even after giving him some super-duper pain medication, he still holds up his leg.
Does anyone have any suggestions / recommendations? Could it be that its not painful at all, but instead gone numb / asleep?
It really kills me seeing him like this. We have two other pets and I try to keep a very close eye on him, but I guess it's possible he keeps aggrevating his injury. It's just that its been almost 3 months now during which he had his good days and bad days .... how long could a soft tissue injury take to heal?
Oh, I went to an ER vet, my old vet and ofcourse my current vet. All pretty much give the same prognosis, or lack thereof. Other than that they all claim he is 3 pds overweight. (though he's not a fatty .. just a big cat)
One more thing to note. On the last visit last, after they checked his blood, I was told he really needs to go back on a diet since he had a lot of fat in his blood. Could that contribute to anything?
Thanks everyone ...
