I use stainless steel bowls for my cat, she is still a young cat she is not a year old. She was born in my backyard along with other kittens.. I keep her inside all the time.
sorry I replied but it did not show up under your comment, I have to learn how this works. I have noticed they are putting carageenan in canned foods now for the past year or two almost every brand has switched to this from guar guar gum. Weruva brand sells some that say "carageenan free" you might want to try this for a week or so just in case it works, then you would know. Also you can check websites to see food recalls. That sounds odd, good you got her off that food.Long story. Few weeks ago Ms. Koli had diarrhea very bad, she was in her box for a longer period of time then normal and was very vocal. I checked the box when she finished, found a soft stool with bright red blood in it. Thought she was constipated which caused blood. Then a few days later found bright red blood in her food bowl, which I assumed she had vomited in her dish. Very concerned, took her to the vet, $400 later ....tests, xray, scan. Vet said she may have ibs as everything looked good, whew. Got home from work later that day and found her open food can was half red (bright blood red), for the life of me couldn't figure out how she could have thrown up in that can, which I had left on counter that morning. Left can undisturbed on counter as now i thought next morning i would bring can to vet so he could analyze vomit. Next morning food is completely red. So it was the food in her bowl that turned red and she wasn't vomiting after all. Relieved to know it was her food, dismayed to know it was her food. What do they put in that cat food. Never had discoloration of food before. And she always eats off of glass plates, no plastic. I took a pic of can/food but cannot figure out how to attach pic to this email. Well a few days pass and now she has a lower swollen lip just like the pics of your cats. I think it is the food. Not going back to vet unless she gets worse. She has a great appetite, loves that dam cat food although I have now taken her off it. I think something was wrong with that batch of food and she is having some type of reaction to it. Which in turn has caused her to have that swollen lower lip. Can't thank everybody enough for the pics and remarks, really put me at ease.
I've experienced the same bottom lip only Larger thought maybe a bee sting?? it went away in a few days no problem, just watch it for now open wounds etc. if your cat gets a fever or anything...Could this be an allergic reaction? The vets isn't open until Monday and it's only developed tonight but it seems to be getting worse, she's barely 8 months old and the only recent change is we got a different brand of litter last week,
She uses metal bowls and she's acting normally, doesn't even seem to bother her!
I should also mention she's an indoor only cat
My kitty, GC, is having a similar problem, I think. But I'm not exactly sure what could be causing it...
I don't think we've changed anything recently,
and it only seems to get worse when she's in heat.
She also rubs her face on everything like it's itchy, but idk what would cause it to be itchy.
I think she might have caught it with her wrist claw but my family say she just rubbed the hide off it.
I'm starting to get really worried for her since it's gotten way worse.
It's where it gets a white puss-like bumps every now and then but then fade after a bit just to come back.
Thinking about it, I think another possibility could be hormone changes due to heat cycles, but I'm not exactly sure about it.
It looks like she may have a "rodent ulcer" (eosinophilic granuloma)

That's great news! I'm so glad you found out what was bothering your kitty.
Our cat had the saame thing on his lower lip. we took him to the vet to no avail. The vet said he had cat acne and it would go away. It didn't. That is when I found this wonderful cat site. By reading all of the posts I came to the conclusion that he was simply allergic to plastic. We removed all the plastic bowls and replaced them wiyth stainless steel or glass. After only two days yyou could see an improvement. He is all well now and has not had any further complications. Good luck to you and your kitty. sincerely, Jackson76
What's wrong with Beau's lip?? His lower lip looked thick last night and now it looks even worse! He's acting totally normal, but the lip looks gross. Is it an allergic reaction? He hasn't, to my knowledge, eaten anything out of the ordinary.
Hi. My cat Leo got a swollen lip too. I am scared of it. We'll go to the vet tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. I am so scared. I hope it's not gonna get worse. Now it's really little so its not seen in the photo. But if you look, you might see it. He's a Scottish Straight by the way. Anyone had the same thing? I think it's just the beginning of a rodent ulcer or something like that..

My cat Peanut has that problem. The first thing I was told was to get rid of any plastic food bowls. Apparently cats with allergies have problems with something in the plastic. So if you use plastic I'd suggest switching his bowls right away. Helped Peanut a lot.
Interesting development I wanted to share with the cat group. Whitney vomited up a rubber band.
Now she ate that band last night as I know exactly where it came from.
In the AM she had eosinophilic granuloma complex on her chin and 8 hours after I saw the sore BARF !
I wonder if that was the cause? I wonder if the sore will go away now that the band is out or I still have to go to the vet on Thursday. hmmmm
