My 2 year old cat (Mowgli), has not been eating or drinking since Monday (4 days ago) (Last thing he has eaten by himself were some treats on Monday night). He threw up bile a few times the first two days when there was no food in his system and had also not used the litter box.
We then took him to the vet on Wednesday and he had 105 degree Fahrenheit FEVER! Blood work was mostly normal, FIV re-test was negative. They hydrated him (subcutaneous fluid) and gave him antibiotic, anti-vomit and antacid shots. Vet said that we must force-feed him so started feeding him with a plunger but he is resisting and eating a little bit. He peed several times since and has also had a couple of bowel movements but he looks EXTREMELY LETHARGIC and would NOT EAT/DRINK anything, not even his favorite treats! Dr. said it could be FEVER WITH UNKNOWN ORIGIN (FUO) and I already spent $300 on that one vet visit (apart from the wellness plan insurance that I pay for every month! I'm a student and can't afford hospitalizing him which would cost thousands they said!).
Anyway, dropped him off at the vet today (Friday morning) and another experienced vet said that he still has 103.9 fever. She is suspecting a GALL-BLADDER/LIVER INFECTION. Gonna try to do an ultrasound today if the person is available. I am still waiting to get a call back from them.
Have any of you had any such experience or had a cat with fever for several days and no appetite? If yes, please advice and share your experience as to HOW LONG THE FEVER lasted and what the END RESULT was? Did your cat recover?
Also, PLEASE KEEP MOWGLI IN YOUR PRAYERS! THANK YOU so very much!
