Hi, my family recently took in a very young mother cat, with 5 babies. We had a nice living situation for them (a dog cage lined with blankets and a towel, with a little cubby hole thing in it, and no door so she could come and go as she pleased) She seemed fine with the arrangement for a few days, but yesterday decided the kittens would be safer... under the floor, a place completely inaccessible by humans without causing thousands of dollars of property damage. Obviously the hole will need to be patched up after we get them out. She managed to take about half of her babies, leaving the other 3 practically motherless and in danger, before we noticed.
I was just wondering if there's any way we could convince her to move the kittens somewhere else. Literally anywhere else would be fine, and while the kittens in the floor are probably not in immediate danger (or else why would she bring them there?) it doesn't seem like an ideal place to grow up. Are there any strategies to make her move her den somewhere else? She doesn't seem afraid of people at all, if that means anything.
