Just for thought--

The Yahoo! megacolon group has been talking about a new method in which a liquid Miralax solution is dripped into the kitty. Kitty has to stay hospitalized for about 12 hours, but no anesthesia is required.

Any poop yet?  (other than just the marble sized ones?)

Wow..So, I took her in for follow up today..New X ray shows no improvement of feces build up AND she lost 1 lb since Monday..I dropped her off at noon and 4 hours later, Vet calls me for update and states "First off, you have a very sweet cat and she is in a surprisingly good mood for her condition"...Then she went on to say that they have done 2 enemas so far "with little results", and they did the rectal exam with fingers and she (and a second Vet), were unable to get past the initial part of the colon all the way through the intestine due to "something" being in the way but they do not know what it is..She said she has dealt with many constipated cats and this has never occurred before..So now, I am just paranoid at what it could be..Doing the manual enema is impossible due to this particular new finding..She suggested to do a complete blood work analysis and send her xrays to a radiologist for further review and go from there, in the mean time, keep her on higher doses of liquid laxative, feed wet food and continue IV at home..I think I am going to postpone the blood work for at least a week or so, as this whole ordeal, has cost us in the last 4 weeks, (including today's visit) over $900..I am going to call the Veterinarian on the base tomorrow, since they are closed today, to see if they can do the blood work at a better price than at this other Vet...I just, I can't understand what is happening anymore..She was so perfect right before we left Nevada for California, and fast forward 5 weeks and she's a mess..I don't understand it and I am extremely sad and frustrated that the poor old thing can't even have a good bowel movement..

With this new finding, I'm wondering if there's some kind of blockage.  I know the x-ray didn't show anything, but there is something going on.

You are right on the money..Apparently that "bump" is about less than an inch into her colon and the vet said she does not know what it is, said it can be anything from swollen, popped vessel from straining too much, to a tumor..She does feel as if that is the essential cause of her being unable to pass a bowel movement..She upped her laxative to 5ml 3x a day, is hoping she poops that way but the next option is, referral to a specialist in colon health (forgot the exact name of these Veterinarians)..The X Ray revealed nothing pertaining to this issue, however, it revealed she has a developing cyst between her lungs, which "is of no danger now, but THAT could in time develop into what her end would be" ...So that's just great! Though she kept saying how surprised her attitude is so positive and that is what gives her hope that at least she is not in direct pain, just severe discomfort...I come to realize I took my cat's health for granted..I didn't think I was going to deal with "major" issues like these, until she was at least 15 or 16 :"(

Gosh, I'm so sorry all this is happening.  But what is strange to me is that she is able to pass the marble sized poops.  If she has some sort of blockage, how can she pass anything?  And how could they insert the enema tube thing if there is this blockage that close?  Sounds to me like it is swelling, possibly from all the enemas and that foreign object (enema tube thing) being introduced
.  But surely the Vet would have  thought of that if that's indeed what it is

I wanted to give you all the unfortunate bad news..After numerous tests, ultrasounds, x rays, they determined she, not only has a tumor in her colon, but also signs of kidney disease and "unknown" fluid build up in her stomach, and she is no longer able to even pee on her own..They can try this or that, but nothing is for sure and already we have spent a lot of money..My husband was hoping to hear a "this is what we can do to make her better", so we can just get her surgery, but Vets were advising us to end it now before we traumatize her more with more probing and poking and overnights stays in vet with out us..Today, we take her to get euthanized..This was all so sudden, we can't believe it and most of all, the cat's face appears to be normal and she is as purry and social as always, however, we know her insides are just falling apart..This is absolutely horrible..I have never lost a pet and after 13 years of near perfection in this cat, it just seems like 3 or 4 weeks of hell for her, is just unbelievable..Thanks for all of your support and advice, unfortunately, she just can't make it..My sweet happy cat, is being sweet and happy all the way to the end.. :'(

I'm so very sorry to read this.  You have done so much for her already and it's so hard to make that loving decision.  When you're up to it, we'd love to hear more about your baby in the Crossing the Bridge section.

Oh my gosh...this is just shocking!  I am so sorry

Well, because you love her so, you are giving her the greatest gift and letting her go before she starts really suffering from this.  My heart is breaking for you and your husband
