Mimi pretty recently broke one of her fang. The fang is roughly half broken and the pulp is definitely exposed. I took her to see the vet roughly 20 hours after it happened. But the vet told me Mimi will be just fine because the pulp is barely exposed. She said both root canal and extraction can be done but not recommended. She said she saw much worse broken fangs than that and lots of cats with broken fangs like Mimi does end up having a very good life afterward. I told her my concern about the potential infection. She said the chance that infection happens is very low. I wanted to buy some antibiotics at least but she said there is no need to do so.

I am still in disbelief currently that she didn’t think any treatment is needed, but I am keeping very closed attention to her fang and gum around it everyday. It almost doesn’t make sense for a vet to not encourage you to take expensive treatment or examination right? She could have made so much money if she wanted to such as taking X-ray or prescribing expensive antibiotics...

If you think there is a need to treatment, I'd suggest to go for a second opinion somewhere else! I've done that many times.

How old is Mimi? The only reason not to have the fang removed is being ineligible for general anesthesia.

I completely agree with the above members. You sound very concerned and, therefore, I would recommend getting a second opinion preferably from a feline dental specialist. Better to be safe than sorry.

Please keep us posted on Mimi. Best of luck! :alright:
