My cat returned home earlier today after spending some time outside, he seemed fine jumped onto his bed and slept for a few hours then decided to take himself up stairs however when i came upstairs there was brown vomit on the floor and he was howling and will not let me near him and when i touch him he somewhat gives off a slight meow and moves away.

Cat being unusual

He might have been in a fight or ingested something he shouldn't have. I would get him to the vet rather than asking us to guess what might be going on.

on top of this, he has always been a loving attention seeking cat, he’s never been this distant, there’s been no changes to his diet he’s drinking little and often as he always has so i’m unsure of what is wrong with him.
take him to the vet all anyone here can do is only offer a guess at whats wrong with him

Cats tend to hide discomfort and pain. That you are seeing all these abnormal signs in the way he is carrying himself and interacting with you should be one giant red flag saying, "take me to the vet, please!"

You have no idea what could have happened, I would get him to the vet ASAP. The brown vomit is worrisome and he shouldn't be howling like that.

Did you figure out what the brown vomit was? My kitten is throwing up a brown liquid, have a vet appointment later on but was wondering what it could be?
