Car buying advice?

You say you have 15k in savings? How about taking 6-7k and just buy a used car/suv/crossover outright? Saves you finance charges, monthly payments, etc...

The problem with that is that used cars are astronomically priced. To get what we'd want for that price range, we'd have to get one that was probably 8-10 years old or with high mileage. At that point, repairs will start to creep up. Trust me, I've looked. This area sucks for used cars.

Cash for clunkers has really done a doozy on the used-car industry. My 11-year old Ford Escort, basic model, retails for $3k in private sale.
