Yesterday we made the decision to put our 6-year old furball down after a long night battling to stay alive. He became sick so suddenly, wouldn't eat and started vomiting. We took him to the vet who couldn't find anything wrong with him, so we took him home.
Two more days of very little drinking and no eating and we took him back to the vet, who hooked him up to IV's and noticed his blood pressure dropping quickly. They transferred him to a specialist pet hospital, we begged and borrowed from everybody we knew for the $1000 a night cost, and his lungs started to fail. X-rays, blood tests, everything failed to find a cause. At 9:30 in the morning the doctors declared there was nothing they could do to save him. We saw him one last time. When he saw us, heard our voices and felt us petting him he calmed down and laid his head down peacefully. Then they took him away and he was gone
I'm a grown man and my wife is a grown woman, but we're both devastated and can't stop crying. I've lost other cats before but this one was special. He was so loving and bonded so closely to us (he was a rescue). We really did lose a member of our family, and I hope we can get through this grieving process without losing our jobs or hope.
