I absolutely agree about what you were told growing up. My family had the same mindset and I live by it. If you break a bone and need it set, or in my case if you need eye surgery, then you have to go. Otherwise? Avoid them like the bloodsucking plague they are.
Good on ya for sticking with the good vet. It's a tough call when someone you love is in your care, you have responsibility for them, and they aren't well. I've had the same dilemma all my life. Bottom line is no one gets out of this alive; but my MO has always been prevention via the best diet I can afford, best lifestyle I can live, and trying to limit stress, which kills, but which is unavoidable in these times....I try to provide the best life, diet, and environment for my beloved cats and myself. It's not perfect -- it would be better if I had more financial strength and options. But it's better than most, I think. Getting some good rest often helps a lot.
I love your quote "bloodsucking plague they are." ha Never heard it said that way and you are sooooooooooooooooo right. Stress is a big killer! I have had many scares last 3 years of having a heart attack so I try not to stress out but like you said...there are times when it can't be helped. I do just like you with diet ect and then I stay away from drama people and that includes family. I did away with Facebook 3 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made.

Yeah, nothing requires us to be abused by negative people. I learned this awhile back and have disconnected from those. It doesn't leave a lot of options in these times, though! But I've always said, "No company is better than bad company" so I'm putting that into practice more these days. A lot of family and friends have turned into people I don't recognize. Sad. I feel for them. But I can't afford to join them.
Facebook is a problem for me. I've used it for work for years but there's an issue now where I can't even access the site itself, much less my five Pages. Tweaked a lot but no success. This has been going on for a couple of weeks and it means I can't work on the platform at all. It's very frustrating.
And yeah, it's impossible to avoid all stress in these times. But we can do things like cutting negative people loose and making good life decisions, as you say. I try to live as simply as possible and stay away from as much bad stuff online and on TV as possible. That helps. And here in CA we're forced to have "health care" but I opt out of all the barrage of emails and calls generated by that.

Got her pee test back and she never had an infection. It is all due to her intersytial cystitis. I know she had it really bad when it first started years ago but I don't remember it being this bad. Now it is a wait until it gets better and NO Taking her anywhere for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. Her thyroid test came back good too so she is still off that medicine. Today has been a good day for my fur baby and now she is taking an afternoon nap. I'm sure she needs a lot of sleep and so do I. Maybe tonight I can finally go to bed and sleep like a normal person.

So glad for you both!!!
This reinforces my beliefs (and my family's) that so often, it's better to leave well enough alone. A healthy cat or person has the defenses to him-or-herself from many ailments. A good diet and lifestyle is critical. I've had two doctors prescribe me things that could have killed me, after I told them and their staff to flag my file for extreme allergy to these things. I had a doctor diagnose me with something I never had and never have had. I was the one who sussed this out and treated myself, naturally, for what I DID have. Common sense and logic go a long, long way.
Trust your intuition. Sleep is rejuvenating. May you both be well!

Well, as of this afternoon she is right back where she started. 😭 After that other pill for inflammation was stopped (can only have it for 6 days) she has been going backward. She started throwing up again this afternoon, meowing more and now is hiding again. It's all due to the pain from her interstitial cystitis. I'm thinking her pain medicine needs to be increased to what it was years ago when it first started I know the vet talked about taking her to a specialist but the Animal ER years ago already told me there was nothing more to do for her that I wasn't already doing for her. It will just stress her out more (which is very very bad for her interstitial cystitis) and it means more money and I'm tapped out. But I feel guilty if I don't but I know it won't help her any and I also took my other cat to the vet today due to a bladder infection. It just never stops

I feel so badly for you all, and wish I had something else positive to offer besides *Prayers* and best thoughts for both of them for their health! What a mystery. Hoping someone new will read this thread and have something constructive to offer by way of suggestion.
