Can no grain dry cat food cause black, hard stool?

I've been giving this new dry food for my cat 2 weeks now, and started noticing not long after giving him that his stool changed from being soft and brown to hard and black. His behaviour hasn't changed. He is nearly 8 years old, so I'm giving him the senior food. This food contains 0% grain, 60% beef and 40% fruits, vegetables. I'm going to change back to the previous food and see if anything changes. If not, I'm bringing him to the vet.

What were you feeding before? I don't know if it works the same way in cats, but beef can cause people to have darker stools.

The previous one contained 45% poultry, I'm not sure of the grain content.

What brand of food was he on, and what is he eating now (the new food)?

That food contains an awful lot of fruit and vegetables for a carnivorous cat -- they're built to eat meat, not produce. I have to wonder if that's what's causing the change.
