I have this: MISFANS Pet Water Fountain Stainless Steel. Basic chinesium, I know, but seems very well made. I've had it a week, just went to clean it. The water pump is fine, but to me, the filters smelled a little off. Can I replace the (expensive-to-replace) filters with coffee filters? far quicker and cheaper to change out.

Usually filters have activated carbon in them to filter out impurities. The coffee filter would not.

Unfortunately coffee filters are designed to filter coffee, while water filters are meant to clean out impurities, which can be very tiny.

I did a quick search on this water fountain and IF the carbon filled coffee filters will fit where the included carbon filled filters are located, I don't see why you couldn't substitute them.
