Several years ago, a developer wanted our property and the ones on either side so he could build several houses on the property behind us (formerly belonging to mom's parents). Mom refused. Not long afterwards the neighbor to one side died. His children sold to a young man who grew up in the neighborhood. (My sister was his babysitter several times.)
Just after he bought the house we were working in the yard and he came over and thanked Mom for not selling. He said it let him buy the house at a price he could afford. Since then he has been mowing our front yard. We offer to pay him for his time or gas, but he just insists he needs a place to turn his riding mower around.
Anyway, he was here yesterday and the yard looks nice.
Thank you, Neighbor Steve!
