It may not show up the way it does on us after one long session in the sun, but yes, they get sunburnt. My boy Charlie had Squamous cell carcinoma, even though the second half of his life was spent indoors, it took many years to develop. Sots will start off as something called solar dermatitis, they look a bit scabby, these don't necessarily lead to a cancer but you need to keep an eye on them if you see the crustyness or any changes.

-You can apply a waterproof sunscreen to the eartips and nose before they go out. Only thing though if they are outdoor cats the sunscreen will obv fade/rub off and may not be protected for the entire day.
-Indoors you can apply a cheap UV film to windows.
-Keep them indoors between 10am-4pm when they uv rays are strongest.

Hope this helps.
