I adopted a 16 week old kitten from the SPCA almost two weeks ago. Several days after I got her, I took her to the vet for an exam just to make sure she was healthy because I noticed she was a bit wobbly in her back legs, and she kept scratching her ears. After an exam (including a rectal exam to check for parasites) the vet said she probably had a middle ear infection and put her on Clindamycin (I'm sure I spelled that wrong...sorry!) and ear drops--both twice a day for 10 days. Since then, she seems to be feeling better...she's more playful, her third eyelids (which were showing themselves quite often) have gone back to "normal", she's eating, drinking, playing, and using her litter box. She DOES have diarrhea, but I'm attributing that to the antibiotic. She's finished her course now, so hopefully that'll stop soon. What I'm concerned about is her cough/noise she's making. It sounds like she has a hairball, but she has yet to cough anything up--it's just a very deep, rumbling, wet sort of cough. And she has short hair. I've had many cats over the years, and only the long haired ones have ever had hairball issues. My new girl has short gray fur. Does ANYONE know what this may be? I have an appointment on Monday for a re-check and her second set of vaccinations, but I'm wondering if I need to take her in today. She's had this "cough" since last Saturday (the day after she started her antibiotics), so is it possible it's somehow related to that?? She really does seem fine otherwise.
