Can anyone please tell me what breed is my furry friend

Hi, I adopted this handsome gentleman about two months ago and I'm still wondering what breed he might be. 

He is stunning Black Smoke but I really can't figure out what breed he might be. Scotty is 7 months now, very active, playful and super food orientated kitten.

Without official papers/pedigree, he'd just be a domestic short haired cat with tabby patterned fur.

His face does remind me of a cornish rex though.

I dont know what he is, me either.  But black smoke tabby is less common, and nicely shaped, dichroic eyes at that...

I notice you are in Australia.  and breeders there tends to be creative, trying to construct new versions of known breeds.  for example, white and black russians, whom are established over there now, but even other colors.

He could perhaps be a rest from such a try - as in such a breeding programme they produce lots of not succesful crossings, breeding further on just on a few of the choices.

He could for example come from a try to get forward a tabby russian...  (yes, I know there is such an animal).
