I saw that on the show "World's Weirdest Restaurants" on the food network. At first, I thought "but there would be fur everywhere"...but that is really no different than home.

I have heard of this before.  It started because living space is at a premium in Japan, many Japanese live in such small areas there just is no room for a pet even one cat. Japanese who want to spend time with a companion animal will spend the money for the chance to pet a cat.

There are cat cafes all over Japan and its not a very new thing. I used to go to a neko cafe in Ginowan Okinawa. Most Japanese live in apartments that by and large do not allow pets. This allows tham to experience the novelty of interacting with pet animals (dogs or cats). They are quite popular. The one I went to was very clean, had a great view,a nd the cats were very well-taken care of.

I would want to take them all home! Would love to eat lunch mixed with a little cat hair :lol3: at a restaurant like that sometime.
