Does anyone have any suggestions for a brand of brush/comb to use with long haired cats who tend to fuss about being brushed? So far I have the most success with a glove that has kind of bristles so I can brush the cats while patting them. But that doesn't work on more stubborn tangles and matts.

The best metal comb is Greyhound.  It has wide teeth and narrow teeth.  You begin by going through the cat with the wide tooth.  Don't tug on the mat with the comb.  It is useful to find mats, not get them out.  Work the mat out by slicing through it with a scissor and pulling apart with you fingers.  Be careful with their delicate skin.  After you've gone through them with the wide teeth turn it around and go through them again with the narrow teeth.  This will make certain that you find every little knot.  If you fail to get the little knots out they turn into mats overnight.

Good luck!

Thank you! My female seems not to get matted as easily as my male. They are both going to the groomer tomorrow.
