Hi Anne.

Thank you for pointing out those links.From what I read it all comes down to studies & not enough of them.The stories of our animal's lives.IMO.Not enough studies on anything.Dog's there are more studies but cat's are certainly lacking in that dept.Although i am not big on the idea of cat's being caged & having all kinds of really horrific things done to them.There was near me a few yrs back a building near the Freeway that did animal studies.It has since closed.The University of British Columbia being in BC where I am will pay you $25.00 for your animal for their studies.Not passed of course for necropsy, but for studies.So at the end of the day there are not enough studies.When they talk of a "human" plant being used for the making of foods people still IMO ever have any idea of what kind of product is coming out of there.If you worked there 9-5 and saw the frozen carcasses coming in would you know if they died of cancer.or had anything else in them .You wouldn't.Also being paid very little in China.Thailand etc you wouldn't speak up anyways.You be fired,that is reality.So at the end of the day we do our best.that is all we can do.I do believe food does play a huge role in our kitties health as well as stress being another key factor often forgotten.JMO This is what I have Anne as per food.And I do go by Dr.Pierson as per sending her link to people.Although i must say since I've first seen it like 8 yrs ago it is a huge read now.Maybe she gets paid for every hit I don't know.but I do know she joined the IBD group a long time ago when her kitty was battling IBD & her whole outlook on food changed with the help of that group.All members being long gone now.I must take time to look around this group as I have not had much time to do so.I appreciate your input.

I am familiar with those links. As a general note, any site that begins with "the truth about..." I'm very suspicious about. I did take the time to go over their results a while ago. It is very biased towards their conclusion and does not represent much.

Take bacteria reports for example. So what if they found all of that bacteria? Without an indication of how much bacteria they found, the report is meaningless. I can assure you, pretty much 100% that the same kinds of bacteria would be found in raw food which many of our members safely feed to their cats. It's in all the food we eat and these types of bacteria are even found in all of us. 

 They pose no risk unless there is too much of them, in which case you get food poisoning. Obviously, this isn't happening in most cases (unless there was a bad batch and that's when you get a recall) when you feed cat food, so the levels of bacteria can't be that high. 

I could go on about the other reports. As I said, once they had "the truth about", it was clear to me where this is going and how they're going to do a lot of cherry picking and find ways to confuse people (and themselves). 

I want to make this clear: I am not against homemade diets or raw diets. I have no interest in this, myself, other than wanting to bring cat owners balanced information, based on what science knows. There's a lot of scaremongering going around the web, on many topics, including pet food. As the site owner, I would really prefer to keep as much of it off this site as possible. 

We have a selection of articles about nutrition, and I really hope that people use them as resources. Please whenever possible, link to articles within the site and do not send people to other resources. They are not as "scary" or sensational, but they are valid and based on facts, not fiction. It's also good netiquette, and being a polite netizen. 

If you wish to keep discussing this or still find the guidelines unclear, please do send me a private message. I value the opportunity to share my views on this with other members but as for discussing site policies, private messaging is the way to go, as per our rules.

Not sure if this requires a new post but she has gone off her Optimum dry. Thought it might have been stale but she wont touch the new packet. Should I contact company for a refund on both packets? Still eating her wet food and a small bit of chicken breast she managed to beg off my housemate.

If you have the receipt it might be easier to return the unopened one to where you got it from. In terms of the open one does it look any different to previous packets? Sometimes they just decide to "go off" a food for a while, sometimes it's a day, sometimes more. I try to feed 2 different kinds of dry just to keep mine interested and also so if there's a recall or something I still have something they will eat. If she continues to refuse it though yes, do contact the company for your money back. It won't hurt her to have no dry if she doesn't want it as long as she's eating enough wet.

She decided to eat some of the older packet again today definitely lacking her enthusiasm for the Whiskas dry my boyfriend bought her but maybe 3 mouthfuls..

Cats can be fickle creatures when it comes to food So long as she's still happily eating plenty of wet food I really wouldn't be too worried.

It could be worth contacting the company to check for any food recalls. You could also find out if they've changed the recipe - that can be enough to put a cat off.

It may simply be that she's decided she prefers wet food. Don't stress
