I know it's supposed to be our 3 favorites but that is absolutely an impossibility for me. So as a result here is my top 20 (it was tough to limit it to 20 even).

1. For some reason, I've been obsessed with Megadeth recently so they are #1
2. Dream Theater
3. Metallica
4. Liquid Tension Experiment
5. Opeth
6. Ayreon
7. Ozzy Osbourne (he's a good musician but a terrible person)
8. Led Zepellin
9. Mattias "IA" Eklundh
10. Yngwie Malmsteen
11. Michael "Angelo" Batio
12. Paul Gilbert
13. Guns 'N Roses
14. James LaBrie
15. Carlos Santana
16. Stratovarious
17. Dragon Force
18. Pantera
19. AC/DC
20. Scorpions

I'd have to say it's next impossible to pick on 3 bands, but my favourite band of all time is KISS.
So I'd have to say:
1-Kiss
2-AC/DC
3-Nickelback

They're great, though the gig I saw in summer 2006 wasn't that good. I love progressive metal: Tool, Mastodon, Gojira etc.

Tool is more rock and I'm not really sure Mastodon would be considered prog metal either.

If you don't know them already, Deadsoul Tribe might be good band for you to try. People try to compare them to Tool...

My 3 picks haven't really changed, but were I to expand it I'd add:
Vintersorg
Borknagar
Arcturus
Bathory
Solefald
Dark Funeral (they put on a decent show too)
Darkthrone
Candlemass
Kamelot
Conception
Sonata Arctica
Queensryche
early Whitesnake -M3 lineup and with Jon Lord
Rainbow
Dio
Blue Oyster Cult
Hawkwind
and SeikimaII

-as to being my overplayed favorites/own several cds of.

Favorite of the week always changes though... currently I'm stuck on Kotiteollisuus. I love hard rock and metal, and don't particularly care what language it's in.

Hard bands to label perhaps. I consider them pretty much that, I suppose Tool could be defined more aptly light prog metal or metallish prog rock.

I kind of like them too. And the lyrics are pretty good.
