Hi again,
I know that he is not a Van - he is the wrong build and as you pointed out the wrong markings. I think that he is a Turkish Angora who are, i suppose cousins of the Van and can be almost any colour. There is also another Turkish breed called ( i think ) Keidiski who are very rare and all white in colour.
There is quite a good thing on Youtube - If you tap in cats101 followed by a breed name you can see a short film about nearly any breed that interests you as well as the angora and van.

I'm really sorry - I messed up and didn't read your original post properly! He is really lovely with a gorgeous tail. And it's great you can take him for walks - he looks like he is enjoying himself. The Bois is a great place - do you live in that part of Paris?

I didnt realise that my husband had put more photos up... He has clearly got the hang of it now

No worries, i found it all very confusing when i first starting researching his breed. As i said i had not even heard of them before and we will never know if he is pure for certain.
Yes we live quite near to the bois. Its the only place we can take him as he has been "banned" from our local park. We were escorted from the premises as pets are not allowed... The bois is not ideal though, its pretty dirty (we worry about needles) and there is also a lot of ahem "activity" that goes on there. Like Hampstead Heath if you know what i mean. If you can reccomend somewhere nice to go a shortish drive out of Paris, we would love to know.

Is Fontainebleau too far for you? The forest there is good for long walks. Mind you, I once saw a cat being walked on a harness in the Luxembourg Gardens! Not ideal for tree climbing, though.
