Hi folks!

A few months ago I made a large batch of bone broth, but I've lost interest in using it. I contemplated giving it to the cats, but it does contain onion. Not much - maybe one onion for an Instant Pot-sized batch, and it doesn't smell or taste onionny. Is that risky, or is the concentration small enough to not be dangerous?

I gave Casper a little bit of liverwurst when he was off his food. Liverwurst usually has onion and garlic in it.

Liverwurst did the trick and helped stimulate him to eat again but the little bit of onion didn’t affect him at all.

Although allium (onion, garlic, leeks, etc.) can cause anemia in cats and dogs, a bite or two usually doesn’t hurt unless your pet is already sick from something.

If your cat is healthy, a little garlic as a minor ingredient shouldn’t hurt.

Besides, I don’t think that a cat would even eat a mouthful of onions.

As per the statistics in that paper, it takes 5 g. of onion per kg. of body weight to make a cat sick.

For the average ten pound cat (4.5 kg.) it would take 20-30 grams of onion to hurt most cats.
