My cat, Mac Allister is a registered Maine Coon. He is a typical, very intelligent Maine Coon. He is definitely a one person cat. He is around me constantly but he shares the love with my wife, when he wants to cuddle in a warm soft place. Ever since we had some work done on our house. A lot of hammering and people coming in and out. He became very timid. Hiding when the doorbell rings or the a strange voice in the house.
We recently went on a trip and had him boarded for 3 days. He was cowering in the corner of his room looking frightened. The owner said he would come out occasionally, but mostly kind of shied form contact. I don't think the owner was a "cat" person. She had her own dogs there and they were barking all the while we were there. this naturally scared Mac Allister. She was very kind and caring but I don't think she really understood cats. She was a "dog" person. We boarded him there before without problems. but the kennel changed owners.
We are planning a trip this winter to Jamaica to break up the long cold Maine winter. I don't want to have his comfort on my mind while we enjoy the sun.
I'll probably find another kennel but I know that he still will be anxious. I got a calming collar hoping that would work. He acts strange when I let him sniff the collar. He is not afraid of it but taps it with his paw and acts very curious about it. He even looks for it if I move it. We have another cat and they get along most of the time, but he is bigger than her ( he weighs 20 pounds}, and she will hiss and spit when he gets to aggressive. Otherwise they co exist most of the time. Should I have them together in the same condo? So at least he has something familiar with him.. I am looking for another place to board them also.
Any suggestions? I would also like to know if anybody had similar reactions to those collars. Should I have the kennel person spray with Feilway.
Thank You
